Bromley Mathematics Road Safety Project

Taking road safety into schools can be difficult against a full timetable and road safety often seen as a low priority. Fitting it into the lesson plan as part of the national curriculum is a way of getting the vital information across to the children without them hardly noticing. The London Borough of Bromley’s, ‘Road Safety Mathematics Project’ book has done just that.
Titled ‘data handling and statistics exercises’, there are twelve A4 pages full of graphs, pie charts and tables used to put together a project. The difference between this project and others is that all the data is based on road accidents, casualties, speed surveys and more, to create a road safety project. The data is based on local and national accident data.
Aimed at key stage four the booklet can be changed for each individual school and as the data is local the children are more interested and it creates more of an impression upon them.
