Road Safety Knowledge Centre to launch during summer 2010

Thursday 15th April 2010

The project to develop a Road Safety Knowledge Centre (Knowledge Centre) is underway and on schedule to be launched during summer 2010.

The Knowledge Centre, which is being developed by Road Safety GB with funding provided by the DfT, will replace Road Safety Time Bank.

The Knowledge Centre will be a web-based ‘library’ of road safety related information and expertise, primarily from UK-based road safety organisations.

Information within the Knowledge Centre will be made available free of charge to anyone with a professional interest in road safety, who registers to become a ‘subscriber ’.

Information will be categorised by road safety topic (speed, young drivers etc) and by a range of other subjects (partnership working, engineering, enforcement etc). Information will be presented in summary format with downloads and contact details for people wanting more detail.

The Knowledge Centre will have close links to the global Transport Knowledge Partnership (gTKP) website, which contains international road safety information/expertise.

A design model has been developed and is now out for stakeholder consultation with a number of organisations with an interest in road safety. The two stage consultation process runs until mid-May and the Knowledge Centre is scheduled to launch in early August 2010.

For more information about the Road Safety Knowledge Centre project contact Nick Rawlings, project manager, on 01379 650112.
