Five points for woman who failed to stop for SCP

Carmarthenshire County Council’s road safety team has supported Dyfed Powys Police in successfully prosecuting a Llanelli woman who failed to stop for a school crossing patrol.

Karen Williams, who pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention when passing a school crossing in Llanybie, received penalties totaling £335 and five points on her licence.

SCP Nan Samsudeen had clearly displayed her stop sign and was helping pupils to cross the road. But Williams failed to acknowledge the sign, putting the SCP and children at risk.

Cllr Haydn Jones said: “As a county we will not tolerate motorists ignoring crossing patrol officers when they are carrying out this vital role within the community. This case demonstrates that we will not hesitate to take action against any individual who fails to stop when a SCP asks them to do so.”

For more information contact Rhys John, school crossing patrol supervisor for Carmarthenshire County Council, on 01267 224305.
