Conference agenda finalised

The agenda for the 2009 Road Safety GB annual conference has been finalised and guest speakers include Fiona Seymour and Chris Watts from the DfT, and Rob Gifford, executive director of PACTS.

More than 130 delegates have already registered for the conference, which will be held in Cambridge, 12-13 November, and is co-sponsored by the Highways Agency (HA) and dbda. Anyone thinking of attending who has not yet registered is advised to do so ASAP, as residential places are close to being sold out.

The conference comprises three sessions. The first, on the afternoon of Thursday 12 November, is given over to national road safety issues. As well as a Road Safety GB business session, there will be a THINK! campaign update (Fiona Seymour), a progress report on the new road safety strategy consultation (Chris Watts), and a presentation by Rob Gifford entitled ‘Beyond 2010 – the challenges ahead’. Other contributors in this busy session will include speakers from the HA, DSA and dbda.

The second conference session, on the morning of Friday 13 November, will focus on influencing driver behaviour. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr Fiona Fylan and the session will include contributions from the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety, Nottingham City Council, Essex CC, the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership and Devon CC.

The final session (Friday pm), themed ‘vulnerable road users’, will include contributions from Cornwall Council, Warwickshire CC, Suffolk CC, Norfolk CC and Cycling England. Dr Lisa Dorn will deliver the keynote address to close this session.
