New scheme provides learner driver insurance for £3 per day

The team behind Young Marmalade has created Provisional Marmalade, a stand-alone car insurance written in the name of the learner driver.

Provisional Marmalade insures the learner to practise in a family or friend’s car, while under supervision, with claims not affecting the insurance or no-claims status of the car owner.

Provisional Marmalade says that the DSA recommends at least 22 hours of private practise alongside professional tuition.

Provisional Marmalade provides fully comprehensive cover in the name of the learner for around £3 per day, which can be arranged on a month-by-month basis, making the scheme ideal for school or university breaks. The policy provides cover for the learner to practise in cars up to insurance group 16, for the same premium.

Nigel Lacy, spokesman, said: “Insurance premiums for young drivers are increasing, depriving many of the opportunity to gain vital practice to supplement tuition from their driving instructors. Provisional Marmalade is an on-line facility providing instant cover to run alongside the car owner’s existing insurance for a relatively small cost.”
