LRSC unveils plans for ísafer citiesí conference
The London Road Safety Council has unveiled plans to stage a one-day conference in central London to mark its centenary in January 2017.
Christine Fitzgerald, chair of the conference organising committee, said: “In January 2017 the London Road Safety Council (formerly London Accident Prevention Council) will celebrate its centenary.
“To mark the occasion we are organising a one-day conference to briefly look back over the past 100 years, but then more importantly look at the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead for road safety professionals working in cities across the UK.”
While the agenda is currently under development, topics under consideration include cycling, pedestrians, shared space schemes, motorcycling, 20mph schemes, HGVs, driverless cars and vehicle safety technology.
The intention is to touch on a wide range of topics, with presentations by academics and road safety professionals.
The conference is primarily intended for road safety and active travel professionals, and elected members with an interest in road safety issues.
The conference will be followed by an early evening reception which conference delegates are also invited to attend, which will include an address by James Cracknell, LRSC President (subject to confirmation).
Built between 1411 and 1440, Guildhall was designed to reflect the importance of London’s ruling elite; today its splendour is still awe-inspiring.
The delegate fees will be £95 for attendees from the public/third sectors and academia, and £145 for others (both prices plus VAT and subject to final confirmation). The maximum number of delegates the venue can accommodate is 200.
The event will be officially launched in late-April, early-May 2016, but anyone wishing to attend can register their interest now. Anyone doing so will be given 48-hours notice pre-launch to enable them to complete their registration.
The event is being organised on behalf of the LRSC by Nick Rawlings and Sally Bartrum, who assist Road Safety GB with the organisation of the National Road Safety Conference.
