Milestone for RSGB Twitter account

3 readers have commented on this story

The Road Safety GB Twitter account has just topped 3,000 followers - and there’s an attractive prize on offer for the person who becames the 3,000th follower.

The account is run by Iain Temperton, Norfolk’s casualty reduction section manager, and Matt Staton, Cambridgeshire’s lead road safety officer, who alternate on a monthly basis.

The pair tweet links to stories published on the Road Safety GB website, and re-tweet other items deemed relevant to road safety.

Matt Staton said: “The Twitter feed provides links to news stories on the website within a couple of hours of their publication. Iain and I take it in turns to monitor the feed, re-tweeting interesting stories from other road safety or motoring related users, and responding to questions and queries about our news stories.

“Followers have increased steadily, with a core following of national and international road safety professionals, as well as other organisations and individuals interested in our work. Our news stories are regularly re-tweeted by others, spreading the messages to many thousands more.”

The prize for the 3,000th follower is a complimentary day pass to attend one of the two days at the National Road Safety Conference 2013, at Harrogate 13-14 November. The pass, which includes all conference sessions and refreshments, has a value of £135 plus VAT to non-Road Safety GB members. We will let you know who has won the prize in due course.

Comment Good work. With a range of road safety Twitter accounts now set up across the country it would be great if we could use an agreed #hashtag for our Twitter messages, allowing us to support each other and see if we can get road safety trending.
