Mobile phone motoring offences 'soar'
The Mirror reported last week that convictions for dangerous and careless driving ‘soared’ by almost 10,000 to 43,525 in 2007, up from 33,670 a year earlier.
Tne report says that drivers using mobile phones at the wheel are being blamed for the increase. The figures come after Philippa Curtis was jailed last week for driving into a stationary car at 70mph and killing the driver after sending 20 texts.
Fiona Mortimer, of road safety group Brake, said the rise was ‘very worrying’.
