Retired RSO set to appear on Question Time

3 readers have commented on this story

Roy Buchanan, retired road safety officer, passionate roads policing campaigner and a regular contributor to debates on this website, is set to feature in ‘Question Time’.

The programme was broadcast from the Houses of Parliament and aired on BBC1 at 10:30pm on 3/11/11. Guests on the panel included: Ed Balls, shadow chancellor, Theresa May, home secretary, Shirley Williams, Liberal Democrat peer, poet Benjamin Zephaniah and columnist Peter Hitchens.

Roy, who earlier this year retired from his role as the London Borough of Sutton’s RSO, has been selected to put a question to the panel about roads policing and its contribution to road safety.

Roy says: “There is no guarantee I will get the chance to put the question as it depends on how quickly David Dimbleby moves from one question to another but I will keep my fingers crossed. The answers, especially from Theresa May, home secretary, may be worth listening to.”

Comment I did QT recently. Good luck Roy. Lesson learned?....keep your powder dry as you only get one chance on the night. They can also change the programme the goes out - oh yes....live but not live if you know what I mean! I firmly believe that Ministers get protected from anything too 'difficult' to answer as it would not be British to bash the Minister now would it! DD is obviously excluded from this rule....but as chair DD does have privilege!....I really hope you get your question out....when I did it up in Birmingham the then transport Minister got off scot free thus avoiding any awkward questions about HS2!!! but there were plenty submitted for sure. Having done it my feelings afterwards?...really exciting, great experience to take part but totally disappointed in the way it is all 'managed' even down to where you will sit in the audience??....good luck!
Susan, Northamptonshire
