End in sight for uninsured drivers?

Figures released by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) show that the level of claims made as a result of accidents involving uninsured drivers fell by 5.8% in 2007, and by almost 10% since 2006.

The MIB runs the Motor Insurance Database (MID), which contains details of 35m insured vehicles in the UK. Over the last two years, police have used MID data to remove over 200,000 uninsured vehicles from the roads.

From 2009 it will be an offence to keep a car without insurance, whether or not it is being used (unless the owner has filed a SORN notice).
