World-class sponsors for Road Safety GB conference

Two major international corporations have signed up to sponsor the 2011 Road Safety GB National Conference.

Colas has renewed its sponsorship for a second year, and having exhibited at the 2010 event Siemens has stepped up to become a sponsor in 2011.

Money raised through sponsorship is being used to cover the cost of staging the event, and to offer subsidised places to Road Safety GB members.

In total, 100 people have already registered to attend the event which is being hosted by Road Safety GB North West region and held at The Queen Hotel in Chester, 15-16 November 2011.

Colas operates throughout the UK as a service provider to the highways and airfields sectors and provides a complete highway maintenance and construction service for local authorities and the Highways Agency. As part of the international Colas Group, it has access to the knowledge and resources of one of the world's leading road construction and maintenance organisations.

Siemens, the UK market leader in traffic solutions, designs, markets, manufactures, installs and maintains a wide portfolio of road safety and traffic management products in the UK and internationally. These include: intersection and pedestrian traffic controllers; intelligent urban traffic control systems; variable message signs; and ‘SafeZone’, an average speed system for urban and rural deployment. Siemens solutions help enhance road safety and improve the traffic flow in congested urban and inter-urban areas.

Alan Kennedy, chair of Road Safety GB, said: “These sponsorships are wonderful news for all parties.

“Colas and Siemans are world-class performers in their own fields, and Britain’s road safety profession is admired and respected across the globe.

“This investment by Siemens and Colas has enabled us to subsidise the delegate rate for members, which in turn is enabling some road safety officers to attend who may not otherwise have been able to.

“Our conference has gone from strength to strength in the past few years and I’m sure that this year’s event will continue this trend.”

Lee Rushbrooke, chief executive of Colas, spoke of his company’s eagerness to further develop its alliance with Road Safety GB: “The importance of road safety in all its aspects is a message that Colas is extremely proud to be associated with.  The fact that our company’s approach is so aligned with that of Road Safety GB means that this key event is an ideal opportunity for both organisations to promote the principles of safe driving culture that we believe in.

“At Colas we welcome this close relationship that enables our road safety campaign (SAID), now a decade old, to continue adding value to the evolution of activities of Road Safety GB and its members.”

Mark Bonnor-Moris, Siemans’ business development manager - road safety systems, said: “Having attended this successful event last year, we were very pleased to be invited to become a joint sponsor this year.

“We very much look forward to contributing to the debate on how to continue improving road safety in these challenging economic times.”
