Wheels keep turning for Medway's walking bus

Medway’s walking bus service is continuing to grow with more than 800 school children now taking part.

Launched in 2003, the first bus set off with just 10 children. Now in its eighth year the service is proving it’s here to stay.

There are now 35 routes around Medway where children and their parents can hop on board and enjoy a safe and sociable walk to school. For families who live too far to walk, parents can park their cars at one of the bus stops and join the bus to avoid congestion.

Cllr Phil Filmer, Medway Council’s portfolio holder for front line services, said: “The success of the walking bus is fantastic and a credit to the parents and children that keep the service going.

“They are helping the community by reducing the number of cars on the roads as well as providing a healthy way for children to get to school.”
