It means 'killed and seriously injured' casualties - it's a phrase used widely in road safety circles when calculating casualty statistics.

7. I understand that you publish guidance on how routes to school should be assessed in regard to their safety as walking routes vis-a-vis school bus provision. Is this guidance available online or can I be sent a copy?

These guidelines are published in the members area of this website. If you are not a member, in the first instance it would be advisable to contact your local road safety team.

This is one of the greatest challenges that road safety professional face. If you visit the 'young driver' section in the news archive on the website you can read about campaigns and initiatives aimed at young drivers. 16. I have a car with five seats but the rear middle seat is very small with a lapbelt. I need to transport three children aged 2, 4 and 7. I plan to have the 4 year old and 2 year old in the rear in appropriate seats. However this obviously leaves the 7 year old in the front (with the correct booster) and my airbag does not switch off. As long as I move the seat back as far as possible is this safe?

What you are proposing is the best option - you certainly don’t want to be putting a child in a lap belt. It’s important to use a HIGH BACK booster and not a booster cushion, and also to be sure that when you move the front vehicle seat back that the seat belt is still anchored behind the child's shoulder and not from just in front.
