The Grand, 97-99 King's Road, Brighton, BN1 2FW

The Grand is an iconic piece of British history, perched contentedly at the centre of one of the world’s most famous seafronts.
The Grand was designed by architect John Whichcord Jr and built in 1864 on the site occupied previously by a battery house. Among its advanced engineering features at the time was the ‘vertical omnibus’, a hydraulically powered lift powered by cisterns in the roof. This was the first lift built in the United Kingdom outside London, where only two others had been installed.
There are 201 rooms in the hotel, along with bespoke conferencing facilities for up to 800 guests. The largest room is the Empress Suite (below), which is where the National Road Safety Conference & Exhibition will be held.
Delegates are advised and encouraged to travel to Brighton by public transport – ideally train – if at all possible.
The journey time from London Victoria to Brighton is just one hour and The Grand is about 10 minutes walk from the station, or a couple of minutes by taxi.
From the M25, take the M23 to Brighton and then the A259 Seafront Road.
Gatwick Airport is 28 miles away - 45 minutes by taxi. The train from Gatwick Airport to Brighton takes about 30 minutes.
You can leave your bike safe and secure for FREE at The Grand - cycle parking is available for all hotel guests.
The hotel car park only has 40 parking spaces available to Road Safety GB delegates, but there is an NCP directly behind the hotel in Russell Road with more than 500 spaces where we have arranged a concessionary rate of £15 for the first 24hrs (normal price £25.20). Additional hours (after first 24hrs) will be charged at the normal hourly rate. Please park in the car park as normal and bring your ticket with you to conference registration where you can exchange it for a ticket which will entitle you to the concessionary rate.
